July 1, 2002; Lebanon, MO. - The high-banks of the Lebanon midway Speedway will hold a 1 day special on Sept.21 for Late Models,Modifieds, and area Bombers. The 1st ever Larry Phillips SHOWME SHOWDOWN is set to honor the Ozarks Living Legend. "We want to show how much we enjoyed his talents behind the wheel of a stockcar in Missouri Racing History, not only at Lebanon and Bolivar but also in the Kansas City Region and surrounding areas." quoted track announcer Ron Williams. "So we are scheduling a 125 Lap Late Model feature paying 3000 to win and 300 to start, making it a 1 day show and really Larry's type of race.Qualify, practice, line-up and go racing. This deal will be great for the drivers and fans alike, and with our friends from the North (I-70 Speedway in Odessa,Mo.) not running that weekend, and tracks points races finishing up around Sept 14, we feel that we can put together a top notch group of cars. 2 time and defending Lebanon Champ Tim Swearengin, Rookie stand out Tony Jackson Jr., I-70 hotshoe John O'Neal has expressed alot of interest in this race, along with veteran Joe Ross, and lady driver Jenny White(who just recently won her first LM feature.)" "The rules are pretty simple-Late Models will run the 500 Carburetor with a 358 C.I. Max,weight 2700 Lbs.and the tires allowed will be the Hoosier 35's on the Left and 56's on the right along with the Goodyear D1132. The tires you qualify on will be what you race on. Motors will be the area's 11.0 to 1 compression type motor, no Aliuminum heads or motors allowed, and the entry fee is set for 125.00 in the Late Models. We came up with the 125 laps in this order, his car number(75)40 years or thrilling the fans, 5 NASCAR National titles and 5 Lebanon Point Titles." "We want the area drivers(Lebanon& Kansas City) to have 2 big paying shows and with I-70 running there World Cup in the 1st weekend of Oct. this will give everyone time for both shows.Modifieds will be set to run for $1000 to win with a 40 lap feature possibly and $100 to start." As defending I-70 champion John O'Neal said "This is a good set-up for the drivers and fans, I learned alot from Larry in many asspects, and would love to be able to win the first race in this deal. Lebanon cars have come up and ran with us in the World Cup and in seasons past I-70 cars went down there in the old ARTGO Series days. With this deal, the tracks are very close on there rules and the payoff is pretty good with the drivers and fans both in mind-Lebanon is a great facility with pits on the outside and great viewing from allround." For more information contact Ronnie Williams at 417-588-1026 after 5pm or by email ronniew@advertisnet.com. "One other deal is that Stockstub cars are welcomed but will have to run the 500 Carb.and Modifieds would be running the 350 Carb with a weight of 2500Lbs.after the race. Everything in final details are still being worked out, but we are excited about this deal, as we have pushed our final Enduro race of the season 1 week back to try this show" |
