By Tim Berrier

September 12, 2002; Lebanon, MO. -  The season long battle to wear the helmet for top points runners will come to a head this weekend at the Lebanon Midway Speedway.

Going into this weekends racing action-Springfield veteran Tim Swearengin will be looking to wrap up his third consecutive Late Model Points Title as he holds the lead over Steve Holt while the rest of the drivers are jockeying for final positions.
The title will put Swearengin in tough company as Larry Phillips captured 5 Lebanon Titles in 93, 94, 95, 96, 98 on the Asphalt Speedplant. Galena Veteran Ken Essary took home Dirt Late Model Championships at Lebanon in 83, 84, 85, 86,87.

Veteran Modified Driver Dale Roper will be looking to secure his 4th Season title this weekend as 98 rookie of the year Jay Bates his holding on to a solid second has a dogfight for the remaining positions are tight.Only David Bates has more Modified Titles with 5.Roper's other titles were in 91, 93, 95.

The Sportsman battle is the closest going on as Rolla's Gary Klossner holds a 12 point lead over Scotty Atkinson as neither of these drivers have captured a season long championship while behind them Chris Nichols and Brian Schutt are in a deadlock for third.

Richland's Steve Maddux will take home his first ever SuperStock Title as the former Bolivar Bomber Champ has had to earn his money all season long coming from the back of the field.

Richland's Jason Otto will capture his first ever title and has plans on moving up to SuperStock next season as Otto had the storybook season as a cery tight battle in mid-season and a horrifying wreck destroyed his car.In 1 week they built a new racer and have really been dialed in since then. The battle for top 10 spots is very tight.
