February 20, 2002; Lebanon, MO. - The high banks of the Lebanon Midway (I-44) Speedway will be in action with two practice sessions being held on Saturday Afternoon March 30th and Saturday April 6th. These will be held from around Noon until 4 p.m..Then on Saturday night April 13th, the action will begin with the points battles on opening night. 5 classes of cars will be battling most every Saturday night with Late Models, Sportsman, Modifieds, Superstocks, and Bombers competing this season along with Baby Grands about once a month. 2 current Friday night specials are planned, as Enduro racing will be happening along with a local class competing each of those night also (see in the pits for full schedule rundown). Interest is very high this season as Defending Late Model champ Tim Swearengin will be gunning for his 3rd straight Late Model Title. Defending Sportsman champ-Tony Jackson Jr will be moving to the Late Model class this season leaving it wide open for the title as Rolla's Gary Klossner will be the odds on favorite for that title in his Ford but will face stiff competition from Superstock Champ Robert Reeves(who bought Jackson's award winning car), Sam Payne, Scott Atkinson and many more. 5 time Modified Champ David Bates will try to dethrone defending titlest Jim Hayes and will face heavy pressure from 17 year old Marty Castens Jr. from Oklahoma, points runner-up Brian Schutt, Rookie of the year Ron Myers, Jay Bates, Jerry Bossen and a whole field of ground pounders including 3 time titlest Dale Roper. The Superstockers will be chasing a new champ as Reeves moves to Sportsman, and it will be wide open as points runner-up Toby Harden moves up to Sportsman also. Donnie Miller, Steve Maddux, Steve Shaw, and many more follow in this vintage type class consisting mostly of older Camaros. Silent Sam Shaw will be moving up also as that leaves it to whoever in the Bomb Squad. The Shaw Racing family from Rogersville will be busy as Steve will be running Modifeds, Superstocks and sometimes his wife's Missy's car which won the point title in 99 and 2000. The special Enduros will pay approx. $3000 or so to win and has interest very high in the area as several Saturday night local drivers are putting together this Pure Type Special car. These events are set for Friday Night May 24th along with local modifieds running for extra money, and then again on Friday Night July 26th along with the Sportsman cars. Other special things include Kids rides nights on the first Saturday of each month, the popular 10000 penny scramble on June 8th, the trailer race of destruction on Aug.3rd, the School Bus Jump on August 24th and much much more as the final schedule gets put together.
