March 19, 2002; Lebanon, MO. - The high banks of the midway Speedway ( fromerly I-44 Speedway ) is coming closer to the season opener on April 13th when the Battle for the 2002 track titles will begin once again.Drivers will be able to begin practice sessions on March 30 from 12-4 on that Sat and also on April 6th also from noon till 4 on those Sat.afternoons. This Sat will feature a car show at the St.Robert Wal-mart Supercenter from 10:30 till 2:30 featuring 2001 Modified Champion Jim hayes from Crocker,Sportsman Champion Tony Jackson Jr,. of Lebanon will be displaying his his new Late Model along with Waynesville residents Josh Woody in his Superstocker, Fort Wood's Racing Ranger Dale Scherer with his Patriotic Superstocker, Richland's Jason Otto and his new look Bomber; and many other local area drivers. The drivers activities will begin this Saturday as the track will be having there tire sale at the speedway starting around 8 a.m. in the morning. A full family schedule is on tap again for this season as the Speedway has scheduled 2 special Friday Night events this season with 150 lap Enduro Specials are on tap-paying between 3000-4000 to the winner as you take an old car put in a roll cage,and get ready to go around the 3/8ths mile Asphalt oval. Other Specials activities include the always popular kids rides every 1st Saturady of the month as kids 12 and under recieve 1 lap around the track in a real race car; the 2nd ever attempt of the popular School Bus Jump; the 2nd ever Trailer Race of Destruction; Long distance races for all classes with extra purse money throughout the season; The 10,000 penny scramble fro the kids; A Mother's Day Weekend special including a Powderpuff race in which the Ladies get a chance to race in Bomber Cars; Legends Cars from the Oklahoma / Texas area coming in and much much more for the family. 2001 late model Champion Tim Swearengin of Springfield will be heading a very talented Late Model Field,as the Rookie crop will include Lebanon's Tony Jackson Jr., Dusty Comer, Springfield's Tom Smith, and Lebanon's Brian Brown going for the honors. Superstock Champ Robert Reeves will be taking over the wheel of the Jackson award
winning car,but will face hard charges of Rolla's Gary Klossner,Buffalo's Sam Payne'
Lebanon's Chris Nicholas,and Superstock Standout Toby Harden. Over 110 cars have already pre-registered there numbers for this season and it looks to be one fo the finest as special family prices are being developed.
