March 30, 2002; Lebanon, MO. - Over 50 race teams were at the opening practice at the Lebanon Midway(I-44) Speedway Sat afternoon showing that the interest is very high for the 2002 racing season. They came from Southwest Missouri,Okla., Ark. ,The St. Louis area, and all about along with many spectators also as the "Wildside" Tier parking area which holds about 220 plus cars had around 80 or more at last count. Drivers that were displaying there new color,and body schemes included 2001 late Model Champion Tim Swearingin,2001 Modified Champion Jim Hayes,2001 Sportsman champ Tony Jackson Jr., practicing his new Late Model, defending Bomber Champion Silent Sam Shaw of Rogersville,Mo.1999 Late Model champ Ken Dickinson, 2001 Baby Grand A Regional Champion Dusty Comer of Lebanon Driving for Tim Parson's racing team this season with his Dodge Avenger; 3-time Modified Track Champion Dale Roper, and Modified Points runner-up from Richland Brian Schutt displaying his new ride this season along with many more teams that will be competing on a weekly basis. The 3/8ths mile asphalt oval in under new management with Lebanon resdient Harold Armstrong taking over the helm by leasing the speedway this season with option to buy. The changes made over the winter months seemed to be paying off as many teams who were not ready,were there watching and will try to get ready for next Sat.practice starting at noon and lasting till about 4pm getting ready for the Season opener on Sat April 13.
