Chub Frank Looks To Recapture Old Wayne County Speedway Magic On Friday, May 25

ORRVILLE, OH – May 16, 2012 – The first World of Outlaws Late Model Series event in six years at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway might be coming at just the right time for Chub Frank.

It’s been nearly three years since Frank has won an A-Main on the renowned circuit, but his improved 2012 performance shows he’s on the verge of a slump-busting victory – and no track presents a better breakthrough opportunity for the veteran than Wayne County, which returns to the national spotlight on Fri., May 25, with a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win WoO LMS program.

Frank, 50, of Bear Lake, Pa., was virtually unbeatable in special shows at Wayne County from 1999-2006, winning five times over the span. His triumphs came in events sanctioned by four different series, including the World of Outlaws in 2006 (the track’s only previous race for the tour) and three circuits that have since ceased operation: Hav-A-Tampa/UDTRA (2000 and ’01), MACS (’00) and STARS (1999).

“Wayne County has been pretty good to me,” bottom-lined Frank, whose five wins there brought him a total of $40,000 in earnings. “I just hope we can pick up where we left off the last time we were there.”

Frank’s recent results would seem to indicate that he’s primed for a vintage evening at Wayne County. While he hasn’t visited the three-eighths-mile Buckeye State oval since May 6, 2006, when he overtook Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., with eight laps remaining to capture the WoO LMS A-Main, he’s been knocking on the door to Victory Lane this season. He owns a pair of third-place finishes (Feb. 23 at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park and April 27 at North Alabama Speedway) and, in the last WoO LMS event on May 5 at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway, advanced from the 12th starting spot to place second.

With three top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 11 events this season, Frank is currently ranked third in the WoO LMS points standings – the first time he’s sat third in the points race since July 21, 2008, after the 26th race of that season.

Lofton Riding Wave of Momentum Following Career Best Finish at Talladega

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 16, 2012) – Matt Lofton and the No. 16 Strutmasters.com, Paramount Chevy Impala SS Coulter Motorsports team head to Toledo Speedway this weekend for the fifth stop on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule, the Menards 200.

While this week’s trip marks yet another first for Rookie of the Year contender Lofton, the Roxboro, N.C., native knows he will fit right in to the tight quartered, side-by-side racing Toledo is synonymous for. Having formerly raced all over the country in the now CARS Pro Cup Series, Lofton has learned the in-and-outs to the short track circuits, marking short tracks as his preferred racing style. On top of his diversified short track experience, Lofton also plans to lean on championship-winning crew chief Jon Wolfe along with teammate and former full-time ARCA competitor Joey Coulter to quickly learn the new track.

Coulter Motorsports will bring chassis No. 017 to Toledo. No. 017 is a relatively new car to the fleet, as it is a former Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Chevy that 2011 ARCA champion Ty Dillon piloted during several wins last season. Lofton last raced the car at Mobile International Speedway, where he spent most of the day within the top-three, before a last lap incident and flat tire forced him to the rear.

On top of primary sponsorship from the “Suspension Experts” Strutmasters.com, Coulter Motorsports has partnered with two Ohio-based companies for the Menards 200- Paramount Health Care and Cedar Point amusement park. Joining the team in a major associate role, Paramount offers insurance to both large and small groups, while also catering to Medicare and Medicaid subscribers in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

“Paramount is proud to be a sponsor of Coulter Motorsports,” said Mark Moser Vice President, Marketing for Paramount. “We look forward to being a part of this great Toledo tradition at Toledo Speedway.”

Capps 'Having Fun Again' as NHRA Returns to it's Roots in Kansas, Home of the First 'Nationals'

NHRA Media PR PhotoNHRA Media PR PhotoTOPEKA, Kan. – As one of the most accomplished students of the great history of NHRA Championship Drag Racing, Ron Capps gets goosebumps just thinking about returning to Kansas to compete in a professional drag race.

Due to the flat landscape and its central proximity to the rest of the country, in 1955 Kansas served as the official host for NHRA’s first “National Event,” on an airstrip near the town of Great Bend. It was simply called “The Nationals,” and with that event, hot-rodding enthusiasts across the U.S. could test their machines against the best of the best.

That race evolved into what is today the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, but Kansas has solidified its place in NHRA drag racing history. Topeka’s Heartland Park has hosted NHRA Full Throttle Series events since 1989 and in some seasons hosted two events per year. Today the track is regarded as one of the fastest on the circuit and every year drivers get to return and pay homage to the sport’s roots.

“What is so special to me is just going to Kansas to race where it really all started,” Capps said. “I’m a West Coast guy, but the first NHRA national event 57 years ago was held here in Kansas at Great Bend. Now, Heartland Park Topeka is a long way from what it was like at Great Bend, but the spirit of competition is still there.”

Capps’ competitive spirit is at an all-time high right now as the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger driver is riding a wave of momentum from his first victory of the season two weeks ago at Atlanta Dragway. After Capps failed to qualify for the Las Vegas event in April, team owner Don Schumacher made a change to Capps’ team, reassigning veteran crew chief Rahn Tobler to the job. Since then, the team has produced great results and has advanced to three consecutive finals rounds, ultimately winning at Atlanta.

Capps is ready to keep his hot streak going at the Dollar General NHRA Summernationals, May 18-20 at Heartland Park Topeka. Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car) and Shane Gray (Pro Stock) are the defending winners of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event that will be televised on ESPN2HD.

USMTS National Championship Series invades Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Route 66 Motor Speedway May 18-19

ARDMORE, Okla. (May 15) – Up next for the USMTS National Championship Series is another pair of $4,000-to-win events at two premier dirt ovals in Oklahoma and Texas.

On Friday, May 18, the world’s Best of the Best in open-wheel dirt modified racing invades the new and improved Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., and then on Saturday, May 19, it’s a return to the state-of-the-art Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas.

Southern Oklahoma Speedway promoter and off-and-on USMTS competitor John Webb is enjoying a successful freshman year at the former Lake Country Speedway.

Purchasing the facility from long-time owner Virgil Page around mid-season last year, Webb jumped right in and started making improvements to the facility that was badly needed.

“This track has tons of potential, it just needed somebody to come in, spend some money and time and get it to where it needs to be,” said Webb.

Among the noticeable changes are new infield lights, painted buildings, a new concession stand with a bigger kitchen as well as an inside eating area on the spectator side and remolded bathrooms on both the pits and grandstand area.

Gates for this Friday’s USMTS National Championship Series event open at 5:00 with hot laps at 7:00 and racing action set for 7:30. The track’s weekly divisions of Limited Modifieds and Stock Cars will also be competing.
