Fastrak Northeast Late Model Racers Set for Another Canadian Invasion Sunday at Humberstone

by Mike Leone
(Port Colborne, ON, Can.)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series is set to head north on Sunday to Humberstone Speedway to invade Canada for the second straight year as part of the FASTRAK "Canadian National Championship". FASTRAK will be featured in race #4 of 25 on the 2012 slate along with the popular "358" Modifieds as part of the Victoria Day holiday celebration.

Humberstone signed on as a FASTRAK weekly-sanctioned speedway last season- the first ever outside of the United States! Last year's Touring event was the first ever International FASTRAK-sanctioned Touring event. Humberstone started with just a few cars last season, and a total of 16 competitors participated at last year's Touring event. With more cars now competing at Humberstone and more expected to make the trip, a much better car count is anticipated.

Two of Humberstone's top cars are the father-son duo of Darren and Jorden Peters. Darren, the defending track champion, has won the opening two Weekly Series features, while Jorden has finished runner-up both weeks. Jorden is one of this year's "Futures Cup" participants. The Peters also competed in both opening Touring events at Roaring Knob. Peters Racing Supply is the event presenting sponsor.

"We have to thank Humberstone for being part of FASTRAK and hosting this event," expressed sixth year Northeast co-director Vicki Emig. "General Manager and promoter Bob Davidson has been great to work with the past two seasons and really wants to make FASTRAK work. Humberstone is a great facility and I know everyone that went last year had a great time. It's a lot closer than people realize. They moved the show along last year at a good clip and once again FASTRAK will run first to allow those to get back on the road at a good time that aren't staying over."

Sunday has been selected as round two of six for the K&N Cold Air Induction System fan giveaways! One lucky fan will win the system, which is valued at up to $500, and is for use on personal vehicles. The four other Cold Air Induction System giveaways will be on July 8 at Eriez Speedway's "Cross the Borders" Speedweek finale, Black Rock Speedway's "Empire State Classic" on August 11, McKean County Raceway's "Fall Classic" on September 21-22, and Lernerville Speedway's "Steel City Stampede" on October 26-27.

Sunday's 30-lap feature winner will pocket $2,000 in addition to the beautiful custom-made cherry-framed Canadian flag trophy presentation! If enough cars are present, a non-qualifiers event will be run. Bob Dorman became the 17th different winner in 20 races run all-time with his non-qualifier victory last Sunday at Eriez, while Jamie Brown took over the "Wheelman" Bonus Event Challenge Series point lead.

Chub Frank Looks To Recapture Old Wayne County Speedway Magic On Friday, May 25

ORRVILLE, OH – May 16, 2012 – The first World of Outlaws Late Model Series event in six years at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway might be coming at just the right time for Chub Frank.

It’s been nearly three years since Frank has won an A-Main on the renowned circuit, but his improved 2012 performance shows he’s on the verge of a slump-busting victory – and no track presents a better breakthrough opportunity for the veteran than Wayne County, which returns to the national spotlight on Fri., May 25, with a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win WoO LMS program.

Frank, 50, of Bear Lake, Pa., was virtually unbeatable in special shows at Wayne County from 1999-2006, winning five times over the span. His triumphs came in events sanctioned by four different series, including the World of Outlaws in 2006 (the track’s only previous race for the tour) and three circuits that have since ceased operation: Hav-A-Tampa/UDTRA (2000 and ’01), MACS (’00) and STARS (1999).

“Wayne County has been pretty good to me,” bottom-lined Frank, whose five wins there brought him a total of $40,000 in earnings. “I just hope we can pick up where we left off the last time we were there.”

Frank’s recent results would seem to indicate that he’s primed for a vintage evening at Wayne County. While he hasn’t visited the three-eighths-mile Buckeye State oval since May 6, 2006, when he overtook Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., with eight laps remaining to capture the WoO LMS A-Main, he’s been knocking on the door to Victory Lane this season. He owns a pair of third-place finishes (Feb. 23 at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park and April 27 at North Alabama Speedway) and, in the last WoO LMS event on May 5 at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway, advanced from the 12th starting spot to place second.

With three top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 11 events this season, Frank is currently ranked third in the WoO LMS points standings – the first time he’s sat third in the points race since July 21, 2008, after the 26th race of that season.

The local heroes will go head to head with the top weekly talent from across the region in the popular two day race format which is headlined by a 100 lap Championship Feature event Saturday night.

Those events averaged an astounding 49 late models per event. Four out of those five saw the spoils stay at home with John Ovadahl, Jr, Jason Erickson, Steve Dobbratz and Kyle Jarlsberg recording titles. Illiana Motor Speedway Up Next For Chris Koslek, Wes Griffith Jr., & Fewless Motorsports

22 Chris Koslek - Grand Rapids, Michigan. (Chuck Gonzalez / C.G. Photo)22 Chris Koslek - Grand Rapids, Michigan. (Chuck Gonzalez / C.G. Photo)Grand Rapids, Michigan (Wednesday, May 16th. 2012): Chris Koslek and Wes Griffith Jr., are two races into the 14-race schedule that make up the 2012 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts season. So far Koslek is sitting ninth in the season long point chase while Griffith Jr., has struggled in the first two outings.

Fewless Motorsports is hoping to rely on Griffith Jr’s experience at his home track will aid in their efforts for that coveted first JEGS/CRA win on Saturday, May 19th at the ½ (0.500) mile semi-banked paved oval of Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana for the running of the Lisa Thomas Salon 100 Presented by JEGS.com. The track is located just five minutes from Griffith Jr’s home in Crown Point, Indiana.

“We’re going to Illiana looking to win that race,” Koslek stated as he and his Fewless Motorsports Team continue preparations on both cars. I know Wes is excited to race in front of family and friends and I’m hoping I can rely on him for some information on the track and in turn, we can both run up front and hopefully one of us can pull into victory lane at the end of the night.” The Grand Rapids, Michigan driver added.

In the teams’ last race back on May 6th at the historic ½ (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of the legendary Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana in the running of the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com, Koslek came out of the legendary high-banks with solid 10th place finish while Griffith Jr., was involved in the huge 10-car pile-up in turns one and two on lap 65 and was shown 17th in the rundown.

“We didn't have the fastest car at Winchester, so we knew that if we stayed out of trouble we would be able to race at the end and that’s exactly what we did.” Koslek continued. A 10th place finish was a good points day for us. We’re looking at the bigger picture; get through some of these tracks we haven’t been too before and then do well at the places we have experience on.” The 25-year-old ended.

Griffith Jr., added; “I was really excited to run Winchester since it is one of my favorite race tracks and we had a solid race car with qualifying eighth and running in the top 10 before getting tangled up in the lap 65 accident.” The 44-year-old remarked. “It was a disappointing end to the day, but I really need to thank the guys at Fewless Motorsports for all of their hard work repairing the car from Plymouth back to 100% and I can’t wait to get to Illiana to fight for a win!” He ended.

Defending ASA Pro Truck Series Champion Wins at Rocky Mountain Raceways

Jerry Rice is all smiles in victory lane. (ASA Pro Truck Series Photo)Jerry Rice is all smiles in victory lane. (ASA Pro Truck Series Photo)TWIN FALLS, ID (Tuesday, May 15th, 2012) - Horsepower Heaven at Rocky Mountain Raceway included the ASA Pro Trucks as part of the oval track action. Defending series Champion Jerry Rice did his part making sure the fans got to see an action packed race. Rice started 12th in the field and made his way to the lead on lap twenty-eight of the forty lap main event. The combination of his main event win, passing points and heat race points propelled Rice into the season point standings lead.

Drew Reitsma had his best Rocky Mountain Raceway finish bringing home second after winning his heat race. Sam Harris had his best finish at Rocky Mountain Raceway coming across the line just three tenths of a second behind Reitsma. Harris had made it as high as second but with a green white checkered finish. Harris chose the outside grove in an attempt to give Rice a run for the win. Rice got the jump on the restart and Reitsma hung with his following him to the line.

Jeff Pohlman was able to hold on for a fourth place finish after spending much of the practice time in the pits with carburetion issues. Johnny Pierre offered up the much needed carburetor allowing Pohlman to race. Pohlman was given a little heat at the drivers meeting and was given a Hot Pink Childs Booster Seat! “Jeff said he was having trouble seeing over the dash and hood last week and that is why he kept hitting the back of Rice, so we decided he needed an official ASA Pro Truck Booster seat” said series director Randy Kerr in the drivers meeting. “I think sometimes you can make a point without making it a huge issue, Jeff asked me after the meeting if he could pass it on if anyone else deserved it. I also noticed he really didn’t use his bumper during the race so, I guess it worked” said Kerr after the event.

Alan Larson rounded out the top five after setting the pace in the second practice session. “We haven’t really worked on the car much, I was building a shop and just didn’t have the time. Dugger came over this week and we lowered the truck like 4 inches. It really turns a lot better now” said Larson after the second practice.
