Payne tops A-Mod action, Valeria scores in Street Stocks!

July 3, 2001; Eagle River, WI. -Once again rain threatened the Tuesday night show at Riverside Raceway in Eagle River and once again the race program somehow avoided the raindrops. The biggest crowd of the season witnessed Simac's Plumbing and Heating night, Tuesday July 3rd. After the races, the fans were treated to an awesome display of fireworks supplied and sponsored by Harry's Market of Eagle River.

The Bandit heats kicked off the night of racing with heat one being won by Rich Rosemark. Second was Tony Duvall with Rob Rodziczak coming in third. Heat two saw Phil Malouf win. Dan Zelton was second and Bruce Belland third. Pure Stock heat one winner was Tom Nolda, second Marlys Scharf and third was Ron Reese. Chad Rosinski followed by Brian Slizewski and Chad Belland won heat two in the Pure Stocks. The third heat was won by Vic Bodamer, second was Andy Nylund and third Pete Luedke.

Street Stock heat one was captured by Fritz Scharf followed by Joe St Germain and Mike Boyd. The second heat had Mike Vogt coming in first followed by Ken Valeria and Tate Scharf. The first Miller Lite A-Mod heat saw Scott Blamberg take the checkered flag first with Tad Schoonover second and Bob Kleinschmidt third. Heat two of the A-Mods was won by Chad Boettcher with Troy Payne second and Guy Carly third.

The Pure Stock feature saw a field of 14 cars take the green flag. Chad Rosinski took the early lead and never gave it up. Second place was contested by Marlys Scharf and Brian Slizewski with Scharf hanging on for second and Slizewski finishing third.

Fifteen laps were in store for the Miller Lite A-Mods on the third mile clay course. Troy Payne had the pole and was followed by Scott Blamberg. Payne and Blamberg made contact and Blamberg went to the back on a caution. On the restart Payne again took the lead with second place hotly contested by Tad Schoonover and Scott Blamberg. Payne took the checkers followed by Schoonover and Blamberg.

The largest field of Street Stock cars of the season took to the track next. Kevin Maulson made a nice outside move to pull out in front on the first lap and stayed there for a few laps. On a restart, Tate Scharf went inside of Maulson to take a brief lead. Maulson and Scharf came together on the front stretch spinning out Scharf. On the restart, Shawn Bialas made a move on Scharf and took the lead. Ken Valeria who had been lurking behind the leaders the whole race made an inside move on Bialas and took the lead and the checkers followed by Bialas and Tate Scharf.

In the Bandit feature a full field of cars took to the dirt. After a restart, Rich Rosemark lost control and went over the guardrail. No injuries resulted but he was done for the night. Phil Malouf took the lead on the restart and stayed there until Bruce Belland took over and went on to win. The real battle was for second, which went to Mark Schuenemann followed by Malouf.

Thad Boettcher's Dodge Shadow was victorious over an S-10 to take Street Eliminator in a best 2 out of 3. Race fans are encouraged to enter the Street Eliminator class. Rules and details can be obtained by calling Don Scharf at 499-3573 or 479-8199.
