September 1, 2002; Eagle River, WI. - Two of Riverside Raceway's four track championship battles were still close entering Simac's Plumbing and Heating Season Championship Night. It looked like the racing would be excellent, but rain interfered and the night's racing was canceled. The rains were fast-approaching as the drivers completed hot laps, but there was still hope that the heat races could be completed. Those hopes drowned on the first lap of the first heat for the Miller Lite A-Mods. Track officials put the field under the red flag in hopes that the rain would stop, but the rain never stopped and five minutes after the cars were halted, racing was canceled for the evening. Since Sunday night was supposed to be the last point's night at Riverside Raceway, the season was declared official. This handed Rich Rosemark the Bandit Championship, Marlys Scharf the Pure Stock Championship, and Ken Valeria the Street Stock Championship. The Miller Lite A-Mods had a tie atop the standings between Tad Schoonover and Bob Kleinschmidt. In the six years as Riverside Raceway, there had never been a tie for the point's championship. Track officials discussed what to do about the situation, and it was determined that since Schoonover and Kleinschmidt did not have the chance to race for the championship due to the rain, the two drivers would split track championship honors for the Miller Lite A-Mods. In other news, the Ashland 6-Cylinders that were scheduled to race on Sunday night, will be back at Riverside Raceway on Saturday, September 14 for Fan Appreciation Night. The 6-Cylinders will be just part of a great night of racing which will included all four classes of racing at Riverside, trophy presentations to the top drivers, and an autograph session. Again, Fan Appreciation Night will be on Saturday, September 14 with racing starting at a special 6:00 PM start time. There will be no charge for admission. |
