Riverside Raceway
Rumblings: August 8, 2003!
By Jeremy Mayo |
August 8, 2003; Eagle River, WI. - Following their
fight in the feature race for the WISSOTA Midwest Mods Presented by Miller Lite,
Riverside Raceway has given both Arbor Vitae's Bob Kleinschmidt and Three Lakes's Stan
Rychlock a two-week suspension and a $250 dollar fine. Also, according to the WISSOTA Rule
Book, both drivers lose their points to date at Riverside Raceway. This is a bigger blow
to Bob Kleinschmidt who had a legitimate shot at finishing in the top five in
points. Stan Rychlock was in his first and probably only race of the season at Riverside.
Track Promoter, Don Scharf, has made an extra effort to draw fans
for Season Championship Night on Sunday, August 31. Scharf has been in contact with the
folks at Harry's Fireworks, the folks who put on the awesome fireworks display on July 1,
and has informed me that there will be a fireworks show during intermission. Also, the
Bandit and Super Bandit classes had the night earlier this week with the second annual
4-Cylinder Shootout. On August 31, the Pure Stock will have their night with a special
event that will pay $150 to the winner. A special event and a higher car count on the
final night of the season could put an interesting wrinkle into the tightening points
battle between Marlys Scharf and BJ Slizewski.
Riverside Raceway will have a Fan Appreciation Night at the end
of the season. Due to schedule conflicts with TNT Speedway, and The WISSOTA 100, the night
has been moved from its traditional Saturday Night slot to Tuesday, September 9. Admission
is free for the event, which will include a full race program, including trophy
presentations, and special dash races for those drivers that have raced at Riverside in
every race night since July 1.
This Tuesday, August 12, is WRJO Night at Riverside Raceway. The
night usually includes a celebrity race at the end of the show. Right now the track is in
the process of lining up the cars and drivers that will take part in the race. It sounds
like the track could have all three cars from the Fritz Scharf stable, and there should be
little trouble lining up the six cars and six drivers needed for the event. Last year's
field included WRJO's Moe Michael, NBC 12 Meteorologist, Steve Brown, and Z104's Black
Bart. Don Scharf is going to see whom he can get for this year's race. The list of
candidate should expand from strictly the media to include former drivers, Eagle River
VIP's, and even this track announcer.
All of this is happening at Riverside Raceway, three miles west
of Eagle River, off of Highway 70 on Cloverland Drive. |
