Changes Plenty as Riverside Raceway
Readies for Season Opener This Sunday!

By Jeremy Mayo

May 17, 2003; Eagle River, WI. -  The 2003 racing season is set to get underway on Sunday, May 25 at Riverside Raceway and fans and drivers alike can expect to see changes that promise to make this season the most exciting in Riverside's 28 year history.

The season opener will mark the return of WISSOTA sanctioned racing to Riverside Raceway for the first time since 1998 with not one but two WISSOTA classes.

Gone are the Miller Lite A-Mods. They make way for Riverside's new top class, the WISSOTA Midwest Mods Presented by Miller Lite. The rules in the new Midwest Mod class and the old A-Mod class are very similar; so expect to see many of the drivers from the 2002 season that saw Tad Schoonover and Bob Kleinschmidt share the track championship. Also expect to see new faces at Riverside Raceway as drivers chase points, striving for a WISSOTA National Championship.

The combination of old and new faces should also be present in the WISSOTA Street Stocks. The class is almost identical to the Street Stock class that fans enjoyed in 2002, but with WISSOTA sanctioning is back this year, expect stronger car counts and more intense racing.

In the Pure Stock class, an attempt has been made to level the playing field with two major rule changes. First, new for this year, all cars must run a stock two-barrel carburetor. Second, Riverside Raceway has put into effect a carburetor claming rule, which allows the racetrack or competitors to purchase another competitors carburetor. These changes promise to make
the battle in Pure Stocks in 2003 closer than ever.

Riverside's Bandit class will have twice the action and excitement as one class becomes two. To give more drivers a chance at victory on any given night, a Super Bandit class has been created for those cars that have four cylinder engines with more than eight valves. The Bandit class will now be restricted to four-cylinder, eight-valve engines.

The drivers tested at the track last Sunday, and it appears that they are ready to go. The 2003 Riverside Raceway Season gets underway with Valvoline Oil Depot Night Sunday, May 25 with hot laps at 7:30 p.m. and racing at 8:00 p.m.

June 3 will kick off Riverside Raceway's Tuesday night schedule that will run through August with a blast. Join us on June 3 for B-93's NASCAR Night. Along with great dirt track racing, we will have 2 authentic NASCAR Winston Cup Race Cars from the past at the racetrack. Look for more details on the cars that we will have in the near future.

There will be fun events all throughout the year, including the return of the 4-Cylinder Shootout. You certainly will not want to miss any of the excitement this year at Riverside Raceway.
