Richardson, Boettcher, Rosinski Lock Up Track Titles at
Riverside
By Jeremy Mayo |
September 3, 2006; Eagle River, WI. -
There were no major surprises on Season Championship Night
at Riverside Raceway in Eagle River. The cream found its way
to the top in all classes as three drivers celebrated
championships with feature wins, while another champion
finished third.
Bob Richardson
wrapped up his first track title in the Miller Lite
WISSOTA Midwest Mods Riverside by starting his heat race.
He put an exclamation point on the season by leading all
eight laps of the heat and the final ten laps of the
feature. The feature win was his eighth in eleven starts
this season at Riverside. It was also his third clean
sweep of the year.
Chad Boettcher also capped off a championship season with
a feature victory in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, but his
win was not nearly as easy as Richardson. The track became
more difficult by the time the Street Stocks hit the
racetrack as a dry-slick condition developed in the
corners. It made passing quite difficult. Boettcher was
glued to Jordan Kurtti’s back bumper for the first half of
the race.
Kurtti finally gave way on lap twelve, handing the lead to
Boettcher. Two laps later, Kurtti spun in turn for,
collecting Tom Warra, who slammed hard into the outside
retaining wall. Waara was all right, but out of the race.
The restart came with seven laps to go. Boettcher now had
company in the form of Lee Christjohn, who applied heavy
pressure during the final laps. Boettcher, however, never
wavered and went on to claim his third feature of the
season. Christjohn finished second in the feature, but
still lost second in the points to Jordan Kurtti, who
outperformed him in the heat.
Chad Rosinski wrapped up his first Pure Stock title at
Riverside by starting the feature. He, and several other
drivers were lucky to finish the race after a big wreck on
lap one. It was triggered when outside pole-sitter Ron
Reese spun out in front of the field. He collected Charlie
Jackson, and the wreck was on from there. Cars piled into
one another at the exit of turn four as the track became
blocked.
Nine cars were involved in the wreck. Reese and Lee
Schuppler retired as a result and several other cars had
to make pit stops to repair damage. On the restart, Shawn
Bialas took the lead with Wayne Nylund right behind.
Bialas and Nylund battled side-by-side for a few laps, but
eventually Nylund took the lead. Bialas dropped out of the
race a few laps later, after losing a right-rear wheel.
Nylund held on from there and took his third feature win
in just his fourth start of the season at Riverside.
Charlie Jackson was second, and Rosinski bounced back from
being caught up in the opening lap wreck and finished
third.
Eric Scharf had another dominating performance in the
Family Four Class. He led all twelve laps of the feature
to score his fifth feature win of the season. His margin
of victory was the largest of any track champion this
season as he had a 138-point gap over Michael Diak in the
final standings.
Just because the track champions have been crowned does
not mean the season is over at Riverside Raceway. Fan
Appreciation Night will be held Saturday, September 9.
There will be free admission for fans along with racing
and the trophy and awards presentation. Starting time will
be earlier on Saturday with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at
6:00.
