June 24, 2006; Eagle River, WI. - Riverside Raceway to host $1000 Midwest Modified Special July 11
Riverside Raceway Owner and Promoter Don Scharf announced to drivers this past week that the track will be holding its annual Firecracker 40 WISSOTA Midwest Modified special on Tuesday, July 11. This year’s race promises to be bigger than ever.

Last year, $300 went to the winner, but to assure a bigger turnout for the event, Custom Build by Richardson, Tiny Tap and Eagle Lanes, have stepped up and bolstered the purse significantly. The three are all sponsors of Riverside Midwest Mod point leader Bob Richardson, and with their support, Riverside is able to put up a $1,000 top prize this year. A top three finish will assure a nice chunk of change. Second place will take home $750 and third place receives $500.

The feature race will be 40 laps, with a 30-minute time limit. Qualifying will be done through the heat races, with the feature being lined up “straight up” from the heats. Semi-features may be run to fill out the field for the main event, which will be no larger than 16 cars.

This is the fourth year of WISSOTA Special, which falls around the Fourth of July. It’s being held the week after the Fourth as to not detract from other activities planned on that night. The race started as a WISSOTA Street Stock special back in 2003, with Dan Zelten winning the inaugural event. The next year, the event shifted to the Miller Lite WISSOTA Midwest Mod division. Jerry Grasse of Phelps won in 2004. Last year, Kevin Adams of Chetek, Wisconsin led the final 23 laps to win.

Pit entry will be at $25 for drivers and pit crew members that night for the class. For more information on the event, contact Don Scharf at (715) 479-8199 or (715) 891-2012.
