Cates seriously hurt in accident at Bolivar.

August 13, 1999; Bolivar, MO. - Jim Cates, #10 modified, suffered serious injuries in an
incident before the green flag dropped in the heat race. Going into turn four, looking for the green Cates hit the wall and suffered broken bones and other injuries. No report on what happen to cause the mishap was made. Also involved in the incident was Lendall Alexander, Alexander car suffered damage, but return for the feature race. Cates was rushed to nearby hospital, where underwent care. Cates will be out for the season and all drivers, fans and support staff wish a a speedy recovery.

When the O'Reilly Auto Parts modifieds took to the track for their feature, it was David bates winning the trophy on this evening. Brian Schutt finished second and Jay Bates took third. Jim Hayes finished in the fourth spot, John Bosson-5th, Kim McCowan-6th and Lendall Alexander 7th.

 In the Grand American Late Model Division, Larry Phillips, getting a hard charge from second place finisher Steve Holt,  was the trophy winner in the feature.  Tim Swearengin placed third, Jerry Kelly-4th and Jim Hunt-5th. Rounding out the top ten were Ron Polodna-6th, Tony
Jackson, Jr.-7th, Tim Parsons-8th, Lonnie Hagadorn-9th and Sam Payne 10th.

Street Stock feature winner was Steve Maddux. Maddux was able to defend the top spot from Scott Johnson, second.  Third place was Andy Jenkins, fourth place, Toby Harden and fifth place, Robert Claunch. The second five were Jim Garretson, Jered Brown, Steve Bias, Clyde Long and Steve New.

 Ron Polodna took his #3 machine to the front as he held off Steve Shaw for the win in the Pure Street Division. Jeff Richardson finished third, Jerry Garretson, fourth and Cleo Jasper fifth.  Sixth place went to Don Scroggins, Chuck Fers-7th, Dan Polodna -8th, Greg Cherry-9th and Tommy Lewis 10th.

 Dusty Cromer stood in the winners circle in the Baby Grand Division. Cromer fished ahead of Robert Baltzell, second and Chester McDowell, third.  Shane Loney-fourth place finisher, Mark Bartley-5th and Neal Kimble-6th.
