Icenhower, Kapica Take Home Trophies at Speedway USA!

June 4, 1999; Bolivar, MO. - After the sun went down, the action stayed hot at Speedway USA Friday night. Rickey Icenhower, Fair Grove,  made his way to the front of the field of the NASCAR Grand American Late Models to take the checkered flag. Larry Phillips, Springfield, finished second
with Tim Swearingin rounding out the top three.  Others in the top ten were 4-Mike Hoover -Springfield, 5-Steve Holt-Springfield,6-Jim Hunt-Willard, 7- Jerry Kelly-Walnut Grove, 8-Tony Jackson, Jr.-Lebanon, 9-Sam Payne-Buffalo, and 10 - Ron Polodna-Bolivar.

In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Modifieds, Bryan Kapica took home his first feature win of the season. In earlier action, David Bates blew a motor coming down the front stretch and Joplin’s Jim McMurray went sliding into Bates. Both cars were unable to return. On the restart it was a battle for the lead  with Kapica, Richland’s Brian Schutt and Jay Bates of Fair Grove.  As the top three finished in that order, fourth went to Lendal ALexander-Springfield, 5-Jerry Garretson-Bolivar, 6- Jim Cates -Bolivar, 7-David Bates and 8-James McMurray.

Street Stock Division put Ozark’s Toby Harden in the O’Reilly Winners Circle. Scott Johnson -Battlefield, finished second with Richland’s Steve Maddux taking third. Fourth place was Lebanon’s Mike Shaddy, 5-Andy Jenkins-Rogersville, 6- Randy Boyce-Willard, 7 - Jered Brown-Pleasant Hope, and 8-Richard Theissen of Bolivar.

First time feature winner David Rich took home the trophy in the Pure Street Division. Rich was able to keep Jerry Garretson, who finished second, from the top spot. Third spot went to Dan Polodna -Aldrich, 4- Robert Claunch-Halfway, 5- Cleo Jasper-Buffalo, 6 - Chuck Fers-Marshfield, 7 - Don Scoggins-Springfield, 8 - Roy Gladden - Bolivar and 9- Greg Cherry-Springfield.

The Baby Grands were on hand once again as Chester McDowell-Rolla was able make his way to the winner’s circle. McDowell held off hard charging Dusty Cromer-Lebanon.Trent Brumley, Nixa, took third, 4-Mark Laxton-Nixa, 5- Mark Bartley-Rogers,Arkansas, 6-Jim Bush -Ozark, 7 -
Shane Loney-Springfield,  and 8-Neal Kimble of Hot Springs Village Arkansas.

The Bolivar KART Series place three divisions on the track.  In the Heavy Disvision, it was Brian Neely going home with the trophy. Neely was followed to the stripe by, 2-Travis Jones-Osceola, 3-Chance Hines-Webb City, 4-Troy Young-Lebanon, 5-Chris Newman-Webb City, 6-Jon
Cunningham-Aurora, 7-Jim Yates-Nixa, 8-Tony Johnson-Springfield, 9-Larry Tracey-Springfield, and 10-Brett Burlson-Nixa.

In the medium division Webb City’s Chance Hines was the winner. Second spot went to Osceola’s Travis Jones, 3- Brian Neely, 4-Chris Newman, 5-Troy Young, 6- Tara Vaught-Crane, 7- Bill Goin-Springfield, 9 - Tony Johnson an 10- Matt Lakey-Halfway.

Daniel Shirley, Springfield, took the trophy in the Junior Division as Mansfield’s Jacob Magnin took second. Third spot went to Strafford’s John Gibson, 4-WIll Vaught--Crane, 5- Derek Quint, 6- Ashley Bates-Springfield, 7 - Robbie Bryant-Willard, 8-Brandon Horinek-Newkirk, OK., 9- J.J.Guymond-Springfield and 10-Jeremy Kelly-Springfield.

This coming Friday Night will be a Veteran’s Appreciation Night. Any WWI or WWII Veteran will be able to get into the track FREE with all other veterans getting in at half price.
