Swearengin, Hayes Win Features At Speedway USA!

June 25, 1999; Bolivar, MO. - Two drivers that have been in the hunt for feature wins found the right combination Friday night as they placed themselves in the O’Reilly Winners Circle for the first time at Speedway USA.

Springfield’s Tim Swearengin was able to defend the top spot from five time NASCAR champion Larry Phillips for the feature win in the Grand American Late Model Division. In an early incident, Ricky Icenhower hit the wall with the back section of the car and brought out the caution. Extensive damage made it impossible for Icenhower to return.  Willard’s Steve Simmons, made his way into the third spot while Springfield’s Steve Holt finished fourth.  Fifth spot went to Jerry Kelly, Walnut
Grove, 6th - Sam Payne, Buffalo, 7th - Jim Hunt, Willard, 8th - Roy Chism, 9th - Derryl Lockhart and 10th - Bobby Wood.

They looked like a freight train coming thru town as Jim Hayes, Daivid Bates, Jay Bates and Brian Schutt pulled themselves around the track for their fifteen   lap feature. When Leo Morgan dropped the checkered flag, they finished in the same order giving Hayes, Crocker, his first feature win ever at Speedway USA. Fifth place went to Buffalo’s Brian Kapica, 6th-Lendall Alexander and 7th place went to Jim Cates, Bolivar.

Toby Harden, Ozark, place himself in the winner’s circle for the second week in a row as he held off Scott Johnson, Battlefield, for the win. It was Clyde Long, Halfway taking the third spot, jeff Smith finishing fourth and Jared Brown rounding out the top five.

With a new paint job on his machine, David Rich took the trophy in the Pure Street Division. Rich has been fast all season and this night was not any different as be was able to move his car through the field and take the win.  Roy Gladden, Bolivar came home second and Jerry Garretson, Bolivar finished third.  Rounding out the field,  4th - Cleo Jasper, Buffalo, 5th - Robert Claunch, Halfway, 6th - Jeff Richardson, Phillipsburg, 7th - Chuck Fers, Marshfield, 8th - Woody Avey, Richland,
and 9th - Don Scoggins, Springfield.

The Bolivar KART Series puts on a fantastic show each and every week and this week was no exception. In the Heavy Division, Brian Neely came home the feature winner on this night.  Finishing second was Travis Jones and third spot went to Chris Newman. Rounding out the top ten, 4th - Shawn Brock, 5th - Larry Sayer, 6th - Larry Tracey, 7th - Jim Yates, 8th - Tony Johnson, 9th - Darren McKeen, and 10th -Jon Cunningham.

In the Medium division, Bryan Neely took the honors once again, only to be followed by Travis Jones, second and Roy Jones. Fourth place went to Brad Neely, 5th - Shawn Brock, 6th Steve Cross, 7th - Chris Newman.

In the Go KARTS Junior II Division, Tyler Wolff pulled off the win over second place finisher Robbie Bryant.  Third spot went to John Gibson, 4th jacob Magnim, 5th Jeremy rasmussen, 6th Daniel Shirley, 7th Derrick Quint, 8th Jeremy Kelly and 9th Ashley Bates.

Speedway  USA invites you to participate in their July 4th celebration this friday night as they will have the Baby Grands on hand and following the racing action will be their fireworks spectacular lighting up the evening skies. Gates open at 5:30 will racing action beginning at 8 pm.
