Thunderhill Speedway Readies for 1999 Opener!
March 29, 1999; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - The Thunderhill Speedway will open their 1999 racing season at the 1/3 mile clay speedplant on Saturday night, May 15th. This will be the 7th season of racing action featuring four divisions every week. Headed once again by the IMCA Modifieds, the program also includes IMCA Stock Cars, Street Stocks and Bombers which will do battle throughout the summer.
A great deal of work has been done at the track since last season. Most notable, is the new concrete grandstand that has replaced the old wooden bleachers at the site. The covered structure will have aluminum seating with excellent viewing of the entire track.
This is the next step in the overall rebuilding of the Door County Fairgrounds. Last year the pit area was raised along with the midway. New lights will also be in place in the pit area this year. Next year, the lighting system on the track will be re-placed.
Additionally the track was completely resurfaced this past fall. Track crews are already working the new clay into shape for the opener.
Racing will continue throughout the summer with the final event of the 1999 season on Saturday night, September 18th.
Inspection dates at the track for all cars competing this season are on Saturday, May 8th from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday night, May 12th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Racing begins at 6:00 p.m. every Saturday night. The Thunderhill Speedway is located at the Door County Fairgrounds in Sturgeon Bay, WI about 35 miles north of Green Bay, WI just off Hwy. 57.
