August 28, 1999; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - Another nice night for racing action at the Hill and only three weeks left with two of those point nights.
Jason LaViolette started the IMCA Modified main on the pole and set the pace through the first 5 laps and 2 cautions before Jesse Brey moved into the top spot on lap 6. Brey moved ahead with the pack bunching up behind with Brad Anderegg, George Henkel, Todd Dart, R.M. Van Pay and Mike Mashl in the mix.

Padding the point lead! George Henkel (#19) the current point leader in the IMCA Modified division at Thunderhill scored his first feature win since July 20th, 1996 on the third mile clay oval. The victory helped to extend his point lead to 29 points over Chris Derenne. |
Henkel took to the outside and powered into the runner up spot on lap 9 and it took 3 more laps to secure the lead. Once in front, Henkel pulled away leaving the battle for the runner up spot. Mashl was the next one to hook outside and moved into second on lap 16. One lap later, a final caution bunched the field for a 4 tap dash Henkel held the high line and Mashl took the low route, but Henkel was able to hold and even build a slight lead to win his first division feature here since July 20, 1996 and in doing so solidified his point lead as both Chris Derenne and Dan Ratajczak had problems during the night which increased his point lead from 16 to 29. Mashl, making only his second run of the year here took second place with Anderegg holding off Van Pay for third. Todd Dart took fifth and Randy LeMieux rounded out the top six
| Chargin' Charlie Kroll (#9) earned his second IMCA Stock Car feature win of the weekend having picked up a win last night at Luxemburg in addition to tonight's win at Thunderhill. | ![]() |
Gary Bouche took command of the Stock Car event from the start with Dave Bouche, Jason Geyer, Charlie Kroll, Rod Snellenberger and Tim Van De Hei right behind. The pack stayed tight throughout the non-stop race and it was Kroll who took outside first and moved to the front, taking the runner up spot on lap 4. Staying on the outside, Gary Bouche was next and Kroll moved into the top spot on lap 11.
Once in front, Kroll pulled away and ran alone to his third feature win of the season here and second of the weekend, having won the season finale at Luxemburg on Friday night. Bouche was also able to run alone to the second place finish with the battle for third holding the attention with the next seven cars doubled up behind. Geyer was able to hold the edge at the finish line with Dave Bouche taking fourth. Matt Junio and Snellenberger rounded out the top six.
Fred Davister led the opening circuit of the Street Stock feature before Scott Iverson took over the lead until point leader, Bernie Reinhardt used the inside line to take the lead on lap 4. Once in front, Reinhardt pulled away and was never challenged.
A lone caution appeared on lap 9, but, Reinhardt, again pulled away to his second feature win of the year and built on his point lead. The run for second was tight to the finish with Davister staying in the pack while point contenders, Gregg Siebold and Jared Siefert were joined by Scott Pagels, Tom Daubner and Kevin Jandrin. Siebold nipped Davister for the runner up finish with Siefert taking fourth over Pagels. Phil Faustini came through on the final lap to round out the top six.
Clint Stangel held the point in the Bomber night cap until the charge from the rear of the field led by Todd Polster and including Chad Szprejda, Greg Soukup and Jay Naze moved ahead by lap 6. Polster and Szprejda each led a lap in between before Soukup, last weeks winner, powered into the top spot on lap 7. Soukup stayed in front while the cars doubled up behind.
A caution with 2 laps left bunched the entire pack but Soukup held on to win his second straight feature in his rookie season Szprejda, in the rookie battle with Soukup, took the runner up finish with Naze taking third. Current point leader, Mike Soukup, powered into the fourth spot on the final lap to still cling to a slim 5 point margin over Naze. Tony Herbst and Polster rounded out the top six.
Next Saturday will be a regular point race for all divisions with the special, Street Stock Slam taking center stage on September 11th in a non-point night for all divisions due to Boone week. The regular season will close on September 18.
An added event will be first time for the track. A big 2-day event, the Hill 100, will take place on Friday and Saturday nights, October 15 and 16.
