Anderegg becomes 10th
different winner August 26, 2000; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - A nice night greeted all to Tires Plus night at the Thunder Hill Speedway for another Saturday night racing program. There were two first time winners this season and two repeats along with the Rascal Outlaws and plenty of action.
The Mods took the track first with Jeremy Jacobs leading the opening lap before Bill LeMieux took control and started to pull away from the rest of the field. His run was cut short by a pair of cautions on lap 5. The race went to the finish after the restart with LeMieux holding the top spot until Brad Anderegg found the door open on the inside to take the lead on lap 10. Shawn Olson and point leader, Todd Dart, moved into the lead bunch. The pair moved up behind Anderegg and 2 laps later, Dan Ratajczak moved into the top four. The leaders ran together in exciting fashion, side by side, dueling for position. Dart and Ratajczak made contact on lap 18, with both losing positions. Olson stayed right with Anderegg with Mike Plate and Randie Back moving into the top four. Anderegg held off Olson to record his first feature win of the year, the 10th different division winner this season. Plate took third place with Back in fourth. Chris Derenne was fifth with Ratajczak rounding out the top six. Dart finished 10th in the race but still holds the point lead, 514 - 506 over Back.
Although there were several anxious moments, the IMCA Stock Cars clicked off 20 straight feature laps. Wally Lhost set the pace early with Josh Massart running second followed by Todd Smith, Matt Hansen and Bernie Reinhardt. Reinhardt hooked up on the outside and moved to the front, moving into the runner up spot on lap 6. Matt Junio followed into third and the two set out to run down the leader. It took four laps to close the gap and then Reinhardt took the inside line to take over the lead on lap 10. Junio moved into the runner up spot on the next lap with Craig Paque moving into the third spot. Reinhardt and Junio pulled away from the pack, with Pat Davister and Jay Matthias moving into battle with Paque. Reinhardt held off Junio to record his first career division feature and is the second rookie in as many weeks to win the feature. Paque won the battle for third with Matthias inching ahead for the fourth place finish. Davister was fifth and point leader, Benji LaCrosse rounded out the top six. The Streets had trouble getting on track as several cautions over the first 5 laps kept the field shuffled. Tom Daubner led through most of the caution periods and was still in control when the race restarted on lap 6, and went the distance. Jeff Vlies took up the runner up spot followed by Corey Haen, point leader, Gregg Siebold, Kevin Jandrin and Charlie Kroll Daubner and Vlies were both able to stretch out a slight lead as the rest of the field was bunched. By lap 11, Siebold had moved up behind Vlies and they set out to run down the leader. On lap 13, Daubner suddenly slowed entering turn one when the rear end slipped, dropping him out of the race. In the scramble, Siebold was able to come around as the leader and drove on to collect his second feature win of the season. Vlies held off Kroll for the runner up finish. Haen took fourth with Jay Naze in fifth and Jandrin in sixth. James Bosman took charge of the Bomber main and stretched out a lead until a lone caution on lap six bunched the pack. Bosman was followed by Lucas Long, Wayne Moore, point leader, Greg Soukup and Ford Malvitz Long pressured the leader and finally worked into the top spot on lap 10 with Moore following right behind into second. Soukup and Malvitz moved into the top four while Moore was working over Long for the lead. The pair were side by side at the white flag and Moore was able to slip by and win his fifth feature of the season with Long right behind at the finish Soukup maintains his point lead by finishing in third. Malvitz took fourth followed by Jeremy Wiitala and Ryan LeMieux.
Jim Veugeler jumped into the lead at the start of the Rascal feature with Chris Carlson moving right behind. The two immediately pulled away from the rest of the pack and ran alone in the same order to the finish, with Veugeler taking his first Thunder Hill feature win. Carlson was second with Butch Torkelson and Mark Findley rounding out the top four finishers. Three weeks remain on the 2000 schedule here at the Hill. Next week and September 16th will be the two remaining point nights. The annual Street Stock Slam highlights a non point night for all divisions on September 9th.
