Siebold tops "The
Slam" at Thunderhill! September 9, 2000; Sturgeon Bay, WI. - The 7th Annual Street Stock Siam lived up to its name with plenty of action that eventually produced the events 5th different winner. The Mods and Stock Cars also ran non-point races with repeat winners. The Bombers were cut short by track curfew.
The Slam lined up 20 cars for the 25 lap event with Rick Johnson taking the lead from the pole followed by Bob Bemier, Brian Drexler, Tom Leonhard, Paul Kuehn and Kevin Jandrin. A couple of cautions kept the field bunched over the eady laps. Drexler moved into the runner up spot on lap 8, with an altercation between Bernier and Kuehn shuffling the front spots again. Bernier would continue and Kuehn was out of the race. Last years Slam winner, Tom Daubner, had to make the race through the consy and started in the back. Current track point leader, Gregg Sieboid also started in the back and both were aided by the cautions to make their ways to the front. After the caution, Johnson was still in the front with Drexler second. Daubner was lined up in third with Siebold in fourth. Daubner took over the top spot on the next lap with Siebold moving into the runner up spot 2 laps later. The final major incident occurred on lap 12, with Daubner, Siebold, Drexler, Fred Davister, Shawn Olson, and Dave Averkamp in line. Daubner caused the final caution coming in for the restart, when the left rear tire broke on his car, dropping him out of the race and preventing a third, back to back race winner. Siebold inherited the lead and pulled away over the final 13 laps to record his first ever Slam win. Davister, Drexler and Averkamp battled fort the second spot to the finish and were joined by Bernier over the last 5 laps. Davister took the runner up finish with Drexler nipping Averkamp at the line for third. Bemier wes fifth and Kevin Chades rounded out the top six.
Shawn Olson opened the Modified feature leading the first lap before Tom Baumgart took over for a couple circuits. Randy LeMieux powered into the lead on lap 4 Brad Anderegg moved into second a couple laps later and took over the lead on lap 7. Once in front, Anderegg pulled away to win his second feature of the season. Buck Schmelzer took the runner up finish from LeMieux at the finish line with Olson taking fourth. Baumgart and James Iverson rounded out the top six. Craig Paque led the first lap of the Stock Car main with John Heinz powering by into the top spot on the second lap. A couple early cautions kept the field bunched with Rod Snellenberger settling into second after the restart on lap 3. Paque, Eric Vanlten, Shawn Kilgore, Todd Smith, Larry Ingebretson and Benji LaCrosse were lined up behind. Heinz was running alone at the front, with Snellenberger and VanIten battling hard for second.
On lap 14, the pair made contact with Snellenberger getting turned around in turn three, and was hit by Dave Bouche in the scramble. Both were out, along with VanIten for the contact. Heinz resumed his lead after the restart and drove off for his first feature win of the season here. Matt Hanson inherited the runner up spot and did an excellent job holding on for his best finish of the season. Ingebretson won the battle for third over Kilgore. Larry Karcz, Jr was fifth and LaCrosse rounded out the top six. Track curfew cut out the Bomber feature and the Sport Truck special along with the powder puff races. Next week will be the final race of the season at Thunder Hill. All four division will be in full strength and decide their 2000 track champions..
