Stebbeds Steals Mod Win at TNT
By Jeremy Mayo

August 9, 2008; Three Lakes, WI -  One week after four great finishes at TNT Speedway, the WISSOTA Midwest Mods and the TNT Stingers provided a couple more nailbiters on Yellow Book night at the track.

Terry Stebbeds of Clearwater Lake wrestled back the lead in the final corner to take the WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Series, Midwest Modified division win. Jason Isaacson from Merrill held off two late charges from point leader Bill Martin to capture his seventh Stinger feature.

Boulder Junction’s Mark Schuenemann earned his second win of the season in the WISSOTA Street Stocks and Crandon’s Lee Bradley took his first Bomber feature of the season.

Mod point leader Bruce Belland was Stebbeds main challenger. Belland took the lead on lap 17, but surprisingly could not close the deal. The handle went away on his car in the final lap.

In turn two, Belland pushed up the track, but Stebbeds could not take advantage. Then in turn four, Belland suddenly lost control, spun to the inside and handed the win to Stebbeds.

Will Roffers finished fourth in the feature and remained 17 points behind Belland with two nights remaining.

Isaacson maybe a long shot to win the Stinger Championship, but he has now tied Jordan Kurtti for the most feature wins at TNT this season. Win number seven came with a serious challenge from Martin.

Isaacson took the lead under caution on lap 10 when Nick Visser retired with engine problems.

Martin reeled Isaacson in on the restart and pulled to the inside with two laps to go, but his challenge was negated when a caution in the back of the pack set up a green-white-checkered finish.

Martin challenged one more time, going to the inside through turns three and four on the final lap, but his bid fell a half-length short. While Isaacson notched win number seven, he only shaved one point off of Martin’s lead, which now sits at 36 points.

WISSOTA Street Stock Point leader Jordan Kurtti did not race in Three Lakes on Saturday night, opting the race a special elsewhere. That gave Rhinelander’s Dave Williams a mathematical chance to tie Kurtti for the point lead.

Williams needed to pull off a clean sweep to do it. Those thoughts went by the boards with a third place finish in his heat.

The feature belonged to Schuenemann, who passed Kevin Maulson, Jr. for the lead on lap 11. Maulson’s chances for a win officially went away four laps later when he spun out of second place. Williams placed fifth in the feature and trimmed Kurtti’s lead to seven.

Lee Bradley won a caution-free TNT Bomber feature, leading every lap along the way. John Johnson finished third in the feature, expanding his lead in the Bomber points to seven over Todd Brass.

Racing resumes next Saturday night at TNT, will Miller Beer of the Northwoods sponsoring the racing. Hot Laps begin at 7:00 PM, with racing at 7:45.
