2004 Stinger Rules

GENERAL 

1.  All TNT Track Rules apply to the Stinger Division. If you don't have a copy, get one. It is your responsibility to know all of the rules. 

2.  CLAIM RULE:  In Order to keep this a BEGINNER CLASS, a $1,000.00 plus exchange claim rule will be in effect in 2004.  Either the race track or a driver may claim another car.  Both Claimer and Claimee must be in the feature event.  The car being claimed and the claimer must have finished in the top five in the feature event, and must also be in the top ten in TNT Speedway track points   No driver may claim a car until he/she has raced a minimum of two times at TNT Speedway during the season.  In order to claim a car, the claimer must notify the tech inspector or track owner directly after the race, and before he/she returns to his/her pit spot (within 3 minutes) and pay to him $1,000.00 in cash or money order.  NO CHECKS.  The Claimer’s car is immediately the property of the claimee and may not be brought back to claimers pit spot.  When the Official has possession of the $1,000.00 he will notify the claimee and continue to complete the exchange of vehicles.  The $1,000.00 claim money will be given to the driver that was claimed (Claimee).  (SUBJECT TO CHANGE) 

There will be a Stinger A (12 and 16 Valve) and a Stinger Bee (8 Valve) class at TNT Speedway. Both classes must both have 8 or more cars registered on race night to be run separately. If either class has less than eight cars registered, the classes will run together. 

CAR BODY

FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CARS ONLY.  Maximum wheelbase of 105 inches, minimum of 92 inch wheelbase (measured from center of front wheel to center of back wheel). NO all wheel drive cars.  NO trucks.  Station wagons allowed.  All doors must be welded, chained, or bolted shut.  Rear seat cushions must be removed.  Rear seat shelf must be left as a fire stop.  No opening allowed to trunk area.  Stock un-altered floor pan, trunk and trunk floor, fire wall and wheel wells must be retained.  No sectioning, chopping, or channeling allowed.  All factory hood and trunk releases must be removed and replaced with hood pins.  Grill, if cast or plastic that could break up, must be removed.  Headlights and taillights must be removed. Cars may have complete glass windshield.  If windshield glass is removed, a minimum of 4 - 3/8 bars or rods must be welded in front of driver.  Screening is strongly recommended.  Stock Bumpers, no adding material.  No bump bars of any kind allowed. A hoop made of cable or chain may be welded or bolted on front and rear bumper for towing purposes.

 

SUSPENSION

No modifying of the suspension is allowed.  THIS MEANS NONE.  No spacers, screw jacks, or any after market traction devices.  No cutting or heating of springs.  

ROLL CAGE

Minimum of 4 point roll bar or cage mandatory with at least 4” x 4” steel mounting plates.  Bars must be a minimum of 1.5 inches in diameter.  No bars through front or rear firewall.  Driver door protection is required.  Three door bars recommended.  No reinforcing of frame or suspension outside of cockpit.  Race track reserves the right to stop unsafe cars from racing until car is viewed safe by track official.

TRANSMISSION AND DRIVE TRAIN

Stock transmission standard or automatic, axle, front-end & rear-end for vehicle only.  

TIRES

D.O.T. approved radial street tires only.  No 6 ply, no snow tires or re-caps allowed.   You can mix and match smaller and bigger tires, as long as rims are same size.  Tire sizes allowed 80, 75, 70, 65 OR 60 series only.  No 50 series allowed.  

WHEELS

Stock steel wheels.  Maximum 6 inch wheels.  Four wheels must be the same size.  Right front wheel may be reinforced to prevent their loss during racing with plating or double nuts, or oversized nuts.  No aluminum or after market wheels.  Caster or camber no more than 1 inch difference from top to bottom.  Must have working breaks on all four wheels.   

ENGINE

Four cylinder engines only.  The engine must remain strictly stock for that make and model and in its original position.   NO Rotary Engines.  No after market headers.  No catalytic converters. Must have muffler and must be welded, No clamps.  Exhaust must exit behind driver.  No Headers.  Must have stock exhaust manifold.  Radiators are to be filled with water only NO ANTI-FREEZE ALLOWED. Original seals must remain on computer chip components.  No high performance chips allowed of any sort. 

BATTERY

Batteries can be in stock location strapped down securely or it may be moved to the driver’s compartment, but must be completely enclosed in a plastic marine case or metal case.  No uncovered batteries in driver’s area.  Batteries must be securely bolted to floor and all installations will be closely inspected.

CARBURETORS

Stock carburetor or fuel injection systems for make and model only.  No turbo or super chargers allowed.  No after market carburetors. 

FUEL TANKS

Stock fuel tank located in front of rear wheels can be left there but must be secured with two extra metal straps.  All other fuel tanks must be mounted in the trunk area between the rear wheels as far forward as possible.  Tanks must be fastened with steel straps, bolts and oversized washers.  Filler spouts must face left.  A complete steel firewall must be between the tank and the drivers compartment.  Fuel cells are recommended.

RACE NUMBERS

It is in your best interest to make sure your numbers are clearly visible to the scorers.  Numbers must be a minimum of 18 inches high and consist of no more than three numbers or letters and must be located on each door.  Also A 6” x 6” number in both front and rear of car. Dark colors are STRONGLY DISCOURAGED, they are hard to see.  Numbers should contrast with car color to be most visible.

MISCELLANEOUS

1.  Any flat tire or loss of wheel requires you to stop or leave the race course immediately.  We will not allow track damage.  RUPTURE OF GAS TANK AND/OR LOSS OF GAS REQUIRES BLACK FLAG.  LOSS OR DRAGGING OF BUMPER AND\OR GAS TANK WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE BLACK FLAG.  If a car is black flagged it may return after repairs and official’s approval. 

2.  Snell 95 or newer approved helmets required.  Full SFI Racing Suit required. Fire Extinguisher required. 

3.  5 point harness REQUIRED. Cannot be older than 5 years, Must be mounted to roll cage. Racing seats are REQUIRED.  

4.  Window Nets are required and must be mounted to roll cage.  All glass (except windshield) must be removed.  Trunk and interior must be cleaned out before entering the track.  No two way radios allowed.   

5. No rear spoilers, No mirrors of any kind.
