July 19, 2003; Tomahawk, WI. - In the early 1970s, bounties used to be placed on guys like Tom Reffner and Dick Trickle for winning as much as Tim Nawrocki is now.
It's doubtful that matters will come to that now, but it may not be unfair to say that Nawrocki is having a season of dominance not unlike the ol' Blue Knight or White Knight. The Wausau driver has been dominating features at State Park Speedway in Wausau and at Pepsi Raceway Park in Tomahawk, and Saturday night it continued with his sixth straight Bomber feature win at Tomahawk. Once again, Nawrocki was able to start from the back of the pack and make his way to the front. Weaving his orange Firebird through traffic, he took his 2T car outside Joe Monti and into the lead on lap 19 of the 30-lap feature, and held on to win by four car lengths over Monti. The win was Nawrocki's thirteenth feature win of the year, as he has won seven of 11 Street Stock main events at State Park Speedway. C.J. Hedges was third in the feature race. Bo Bennish has been winning Late Model features almost as often of late.
Saturday, the Gleason native took advantage of a starting spot inside the second row,
grabbing the lead from Nick Larson on lap 5 and coasting to a win in the 30-lap main. Lyle
Nowak finished 15 car lengths behind in second, while Brent Zastrow was third in his first
appearance of the year Lance Dehnel and Bob Schult have had a lock on winning Pro-Bandit features of late, winning the last three in the division before Saturday. Make it four now, as this time it was Dehnel's turn. The Marathon racer took the lead outside Amanda Schara midway through the 15-lap feature, and held off a late charge from Schult and Schara lurking in third to pick up his second feature win this year. The Hard Luck Award for the year might have to be awarded to Jayme July
right now. The young man from Merrill looked poised to pick up his first Street Bandit
feature win ever, driving brilliantly in leading the first 10 laps of the event from
the pole. However, Matt Troutman spun on lap 11 and Joe Guthman spun to avoid him. When
Guthman tried to turn his car Following that turn of events, "Crazy" Al Giese inherited the lead, and after two failed restart attempts, the race was called on account of a time limit and Giese collected the feature win. A handful of Mini-Cup and Legends cars were on hand this evening as well. Kyle Kluetz and Trevor Raskie put on a show in the 25-lap Mini-Cup feature, racing side-by-side for the final 15 laps until Raskie finally made it stick on the outside to win by less than a car length. The Legends feature was won by a track veteran, as Lyle Nowak was money in his Legends car, taking the lead from Chris Helgerson on lap 3 and speeding to the win ahead of Eric Lokemoen and Curt Gnatzig. Racing continues next Saturday with another full program including bike
races for the kids. Time trials begin at 5:30 p.m., with racing beginning at 7 p.m.
