July 26, 2003; Tomahawk, WI. - This
race season at Pepsi Raceway Park this year has included several nights
Nawrocki passed Jim Annala on the backstretch on a lap 11 restart in
the Bomber feature, and once in front it was pretty much over as he posted his seventh
straight Bomber feature win, this one on a muggy night at PRP. Nawrocki started in the back again, yet made his way forward in a hurry. He was already up from his tenth starting spot to fifth after just six laps, and when a caution came out on lap 11 for spins by Craig Beck, Dustin Ochodnicky and Will Garske, Nawrocki started on the outside of the first row behind leader Annala. He powered by the leader quickly, leading half a lap after taking the green and clearing Annala a lap later, and Annala was unable to do anything with Nawrocki's orange Firebird the rest of the way. Bo Bennish has had the machine to beat in the Late Model division lately, and that continued again this week. Bennish worked outside Allen Brunker for the lead on lap 12, then shut the door on Lyle Nowak for the final 13 laps to post his fourth feature win in just over a month. Nowak hounded Bennish all the way to the finish, but settled for second with Brunker third. Not surprisingly, Bob Schult won another feature in the Pro-Bandit class.
Schult usually passes with ease during race conditions, but he took the lead on this
evening under yellow. Leader Phil Malouf had to go to the pits under caution on lap 12 of
the race to correct a tire problem, resulting in Schult inheriting the lead. The Merrill
pilot would hold on to win by Glenda Stevens did some blocking that would have made an NFL running back happy, but the Tomahawk lady led from start-to-finish to win the Street Bandit feature. Stevens drove high and low several times to prevent Dan Bohman from passing to hang on and tally her second feature win this year. The evening also included bike races for the kids. Winners of bike races included Ashley Schoone in the age 7 and under race, Justin Grefe in the age 8-11 class, and Dan Getz in the age 12 and up race. The races continue next week at Pepsi Raceway Park with another full
program. Time trials start at 5:30, with racing at 7 p.m.
