May 31, 2003; Tomahawk, WI. - A
yellow flag wasn't going to foil John Paszek's quest for a feature win at Pepsi
This week, Paszek got even, weathering a late restart to pick up his
first feature of the year at PRP. The Tomahawk racer held off some furious challenges by
Bo Bennish and Nowak to beat both by two car lengths Paszek made his pass for the lead on lap 12, getting by early pacesetter Larry Olson on the outside. He never got far away from the rest of the field, though, as Bennish followed him right to the front and then hounded the leader for much of the race. Nowak made a late charge through the pack to edge Bennish at the line for second. Olson settled for fourth, while Matt Schulz rounded out the top five. Mark Listle smoked the field-literally-to win his first Bomber feature of the year. The Tripoli driver's car was smoking quite a bit for the final 20 laps of the 30-lap main, but not leaking anything to draw a black flag, He was able to hold off Tim Nawrocki and C.J. Hedges, Jr. for the win. Listle started fourth in the feature but made it to first by lap 2, while
Hedges made an even bigger charge, starting eighth and slashing his way to second on the
same lap. He stayed right behind Listle the entire race and was joined by Nawrocki on lap
20, but neither could work by Listle or even each other until Nawrocki finally cleared
Hedges for second on the In the final laps of the Street Stock Bandit feature, it appeared Cory
Boykins and Lance Dehnel were holding a spirited battle for second, with Boykins holding
off Dehnel at the finish. It turned out that battle was for the win, as Bob Schult crossed
the finish line first but was penalized two spots for jumping an earlier restart. Schult
started in the row behind Jeff Swope of Merrill made his first appearance of the year in the Pro-Stock Bandit division pay off, winning both the second heat race and the feature. Swope finished ahead of Dan Schneider and Matt Troutman in the 15-lap feature event. Racing continues next week at PRP with a full program including the Mini
Cup cars. Time trials start at 5:30 p.m., with racing following at 7 p.m.
