July 5, 2003; Tomahawk, WI. - The circle is still waiting to be broken. So far this year, John Paszek, Bo Bennish and Lyle Nowak have combined to win all seven Late Model feature events at Pepsi Raceway Park in Tomahawk. The dominance by that threesome continued Saturday night, as Bennish posted the win in the 50-lap feature event at the Pepsi Midseason Championships at Tomahawk. Bennish came from the back of the nine car field and took the lead in the night's main event on lap 22 when he passed Paszek for the lead. The Gleason driver then held off Nowak over the final laps, as the Wausau driver made a late but unsuccessful attempt at the lead in the final circuits.
Wayne Breitenfeldt of Wausau made a rare appearance at the track and
broke up the frontrunners' dominance with a third-place finish. Paszek finished fourth,
while Larry Olson rounded out the top five. On the It was a new look but the same result for Tim Nawrocki in the Bomber Division. Sporting a slick new orange and lightning bolt paint job, Nawrocki took the 40-lap Bomber main to notch his fourth straight feature win in the class. Nawrocki took the lead from Brad Teske on lap 28, finally dethroning the polesitter after he had led from the start. Nawrocki then had to hold off a late challenge from Joe Monti, who roared up near the Wausau driver in the final laps but was unable to make the pass. A surprise was in the making for awhile in the Pro-Bandit feature, as Joe
Dorgan of Merrill busted out to a huge lead and looked for much of the race to be on pace
for his first-ever feature win. However, a caution with six laps to go wiped out his
straightaway lead on the rest of the field, and the restart allowed Bob Schult the chance
to get up to and past Dorgan Jeff Swope picked up his second feature win this year in the Street Bandit class. The driver from Irma came from the seventh starting spot to take the lead on lap 4, and then held off Elliott Marquardt for the final 11 laps for the win. The Fourth of July weekend also marked the opening of Road Wisconsin, the new go-kart track built just outside of Turn Four of the speedway. The new attraction was a popular feature as it ran even during the races, and the track is open seven days a week, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Racing continues next week with another full program at PRP. Time trials
start at 5:30 p.m., with racing following at 7 p.m.
