July 12, 2003; Tomahawk, WI. - While
his competitors kept vanishing out of sight as quickly as they appeared,
Carlson had to hold off a hard charge in the final circuits from
Lyle Before Nowak finally caught him, Carlson dominated the first 22 laps. He might have received a number of challenges, except it seemed there was a black hole somewhere on the track causing cars to disappear once they reached the top three. Nick Larson, Bo Bennish and Wayne Breitenfeldt all headed to the pits with various problems just when it looked like they would offer some competition for the lead. Only six of the 10 Late Models on hand finished the feature. Joe Monti of Irma looked to be the man to finally end Tim Nawrocki's hold on Bomber features before the asphalt gremlins shot down his attempt. Monti dove inside Nawrocki in Turn 4 on lap 28 of the 30-lap feature, inched into the lead, and looked like he had a good chance of holding off the Wausau driver to the finish. However, Monti spun coming out of that same turn on the very next lap, and Nawrocki took the checkers one lap later while Monti's car sat on the grass in the infield. Mark Schoone posted his best feature finish ever with a second, while Dustin Ochodnicky was third. The feature was slowed by five yellow flags and featured lots of bent sheet metal and several lengthy cleanups for fluid. Bob Schult did it again in the Pro-Bandit class, wheeling his Nissan truck to the front midway through the feature and staying there for his third feature of the year. Schult made a power move outside Lance Dehnel on a lap 12 restart following a Jason Isaacson spin, and the Merrill driver held off Dehnel by three car lengths for the win. Elliott Marquardt earned his second feature win of the year in the Street
Bandits, making it through a first-lap crash and slipping through traffic quickly to take
the lead on the outside of Grady Lyndsey on lap 6 and hold off a determined Bill Powers
for the win. Justin Isaacson, Dan Schneider and Ray Albert were all involved in a crash on
