Lisa Heywood of Richmond, Ill. came from the back to score the win in the Wild Winged Women Sprint Car Race. It was all part of Citgo Auto/Truck Plaza - Juicy Lucy’s Night which culminated the Kenosha Homecoming American Motors Sesquicentennial event Saturday, July 11at Premier Racing Production’s Wilmot Speedway.

Lisa Heywood outran six other lady Sprint car racers to earn this years title of

the "Wild Winged Women" Sprint Car champion.  Heywood who started in the last row held off a last lap challenge by last year's winner Lisa Dubun to earn the victory and this years title. She is seen here being presented a honorary plaque by event sponsor Mike Sacotte of the Citgo Auto Truck Plaza.

"I have to thank Kurt Winker, his crew, and everybody who helped get the car on the track for me," said Heywood. Winker flipped the car in the feature and had to pull out. "It was great fun. I also thank Citgo Auto/Truck Plaza, along with Sandy Nelson and Don Durham, for getting their sponsor involved in such a fun event."

Lisa Duben jumped in front at the start of the 8-lap main, holding the lead until lap six. Heywood, coming from the outside last row starting position, flew into contention as the pair began working lapped traffic. Heywood went high while Duben stuck low, with Heywood taking the lead on the backstretch. Coming for the checkered flag, a last effort by Duben saw her come charging up on the outside, tapping Heywood’s left-rear tire in turn four and sliding sideways to a halt. At the finish it was Heywood, Sharon Egan, Sandy Nelson, Crystal Campenalla, Amy Litkey and Duben.

"The crew set up the car perfectly," said D. Moulis. "I don’t know which car we’ll bring out (for the Aug. 1 King of Wisconsin). We’ll have to think about it."

Tony Engels led the first lap of the sprint main. Kris Spitz shot by Engels, who got sideways in turn four, on lap two. A red flew on lap three when Kurt Winker flipped in turn three. Winker was uninjured, but out of the race. On lap 6, Dave Hanna worked his way into the lead using the inside down the front straightaway. With 10 laps to go, D. Moulis went wide around a lapped car while Hanna stayed low and took the lead. Hanna pulled out on the next lap with a broken driveshaft.

wil9811b.jpg (11535 bytes) Todd Lehr, a few moments earlier won the B-main to make it into the evenings feature event.  Lehr's luck wasn't quite the same as it had been in the "B", as he flipped his ride in turn on on lap 18.  Lehr was unhurt in the accident but his race was over.

A tight battle for third was interrupted on lap 18 when "B" main winner Todd Lehr, flipped end over end in turn one. Lehr was unhurt, but retired from the event. D. Moulis pulled away to the finish with Engels second, Jim Moulis third, Todd Hepfner fourth and Fred Michaels fifth. Mike Dubs, who flipped in the first sprint car hot lap session, came back to finish second in his heat and 11th in the feature.

IMCA Modified action saw Lee Tibits take home the victory. "Tony Jenkins, my car owner, had the car running super," said Tibbitts. "I could put it anywhere."

Lee Tibbitts, became the sixth different winner in IMCA Modified action this season at Wilmot Speedway.  The class has seen steady growth the past season and the car counts and competitiveness of the field have never been better. wil9811c.jpg (13467 bytes)

Carl Geier led the first six laps with Tibbitts going to the outside to take top spot at the stripe on the front straightaway on lap seven. The only caution came on lap 13, but Tibbitts winning ride was not to be foiled. Jay Crichton held off Rob Olson in a tight battle for runnerup. Larry Marshall was fourth. Chuck Ostergaard fifth.
