WIMSA - Our History

History of WIMSA

The Wisconsin Mini-Sprint Association was organized in 1992. The first year saw only 5 or 6 cars doing exhibitions during intermissions at various tracks in the area such as Luxemburg and Wilmot. In 1993 WlMSA elected their first Board of Directors consisting of Brian Klemme, Dave Deicher and Bill Brede. The year saw a greater interest in the division by racing once a month at Wilmot Speedway and Luxemburg Tri-Star Speedway. Later in the year these races would increase to twice a month. The club also continued to do exhibitions at other tracks.

Wilmot Speedway then added the Mini-Sprints as a regular part of their program in 1994.

In 1995, Calumet County Speedway also added the Mini-Sprints to their regular program. During these two years, the club continued to grow, adding several special races through promoters at several other area tracks. WIMSA has made several appearances at Wilmot Speedway, Calumet County Speedway, Hales Corner Speedway, Luxemburg Tri-Star Speedway, Thunder Hill Speedway, Manitowoc Expo Speedway, Sheboygan County Fair Grounds, Beaver Dam Raceway, LaSalle Speedway, IL and Freeport Raceway Park, IL.

Strong competitor interest and steadily growing car counts are fueling the group's popularity. With more venues opening and the competition getting tougher, all the elements of exciting motorsports entertainment are there for the fans to enjoy. In 1999 the WlMSA organization is taking another leap forward as negotiations are near completion on support of a major series sponsor for the WlMSA racing series. This will enable the series to broaden it's exposure to more fans at primarily open-wheel racing venues.

The tracks that tentatively will be on the 1999 schedule are; The Hales Corners Speedway, Calumet County Speedway in Chilton, Wilmot Speedway, Lancaster Speedway, The Lasalle Speedway and The Mini-Sprint Nationals in Lincoln, NE and more as the season nears.
