Emme takes Wilmot Speedway feature!
By Mark Topcezwski

August 14, 1999, Wilmot, WI -  Mike Emme of Cleveland, WI, grabbed his first feature win of the season as the WIMSA mini-sprints made their first appearance of 1999 at the Wilmot Speedway. Emme who had earlier won his heat mixed patience and a little luck to come up with the winning formula.

Mike Emme scored his first WIMSA Mini-Sprint Series win of 1999 when the tour headed to Wilmot this evening.  Emme inherited the lead when mechanical problems forced race leader Dan Uttech to the pits.  From that point on Emme lead the way.

Emme started the feature in the sixth spot and stayed with the lead pack throughout. John Peters shot out of his 4th starting spot to take the lead early. As he put more and more distance on the field he made this look like a runaway. Lap 5 proved to be his undoing as his transmission broke and finished his night.

The red came out shortly after for a flip by Danny Mentzel on the backstretch. As racing resumed Dan Uttech showed the way only to be quickly challenged by his brother Scott who had driven up to second from his fifth place starting spot. The brothers battled for three laps until Scott, running up on the cushion ran out of track in turn four and drove into the frontstretch wall.

At the caution Emme now sat in the second position with Mike Kertcher, Scott Sippel and Dan Krueger all waiting to take the spot.

Dan Uttech led again as the green came out. On lap 11, Joe Pantely and Scott Niccosin tangled and came to rest on the backstretch bringing out the red once again.

While the cars were gathered in the safety area at the pit exit Uttech's crew performed work on his car which drew a penalty, putting him back to the end of the lead lap cars. This turned the lead over to Emme who held off a hard charging Mike Kertcher and Scott Sippel for the win.
