Scott Uttech scores win at "The
Prairie"!
By Bill Brenner
August 28, 1999; Sun Prairie, WI - Scott Uttech of Muskego, Wisconsin, emerged victorious in WIMSA's second appearance at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie. Uttech bested the huge field of cars that showed up at the park Sunday evening after leading every lap in the ten lap Mini-Sprint feature.
Kenny Haynes, avid American Mini-Sprint Association (AMSA) campaigner held
off the charges of John Edquist to score a win in heat one, while Elkhart Lake's Scott
Sippel, runner-up in points bested point leader Uttech for a win in heat two. In heat
three, Micheal Emme of Cleveland kept Pat
Haynes at bay for the win.
When the feature race lined up, Pat Haynes and Scott Uttech shoed the way up in front, while Edquist, Micheal Emme, Scott Sippel and Kenny Haynes rounded out the top six starters. Immediately, Uttech ran off to an early lead trying to distance himself from Haynes. The tight track and the huge car count made for some interesting corners, cars even going three wide.
Sippel also began his assault in the early goings off the race, favoring
the high line to drive around Emme and Edquist. Not three laps into the race, Tom Wardlow
flipped his ride in front of the flag tower to bring out the first re flag of the night. A
shaken up Wardlow climbed out of his crunched
ride and signaled the go-head sign.
Things back underway, Uttech stretched out his lead in his extremely fast car followed again by Haynes in second, only to be slowed down for Dave Walford tagging the wall in the top of turn four. Walford was uninjured. Once again, Uttech began out front, this time joining the top five were Michael Emme and Russ Wetenkamp in the fourth and fifth spots.
One more caution slowed the field on the seventh go round being for Rodger Bogus, kissing the inside retainer in turn two. Green waving high once again, Emme battled it out with Wetekamp and Danny Mentzel for fourth and fifth while Wetenkamp would get the raw end of the deal and settle back to sixth.
Meanwhile, Sippel used everything in his inventory to sneak past Haynes but when ten laps were written in the books, it would be Uttech claiming the victory, Haynes, Sippel, Emme and Mentzel rounding out the top five finishers.
