By Jeffrey Sachse

September 10, 1999, Chilton, WI - In WIMSA Mini-Sprint action, the point chase went down to the wire, as Scott Uttech completed a clean sweep with a win in the 20-lap headliner. The effort came up just short however as Scott Sippel who had a fourth place run, would earn the title by a slim 5 point margin. When the final point totals were in the books Sippel had accumulated 467 points to Uttech's 462.

Russ Wetencamp paced the opening circuits of the Mini-Sprint feature with Mike Emme in two. Emme was attempting a pass when the first caution appeared on lap four as John Erdmann looped his ride off turn four.

Scott Sippel (#5 - right) is congratulated by his brother Randy who built the championship winning ride.  Scott Sippel had turned in dominating performances throughout the mid-portion of the season and came home the the track title in the WIMSA Mini-Sprint division here at Chilton. 91099h.jpg (16065 bytes)

After a false start when a hard tagged the guardrail action again got underway and Emme sliced into the lead and began to pull away from Wetencamp. Wetencamp would bring out the next caution looping in turn four on the eighth circuit forcing the final caution. By this point Uttech, who had started ninth had worked into the runner-up spot and when the green reappeared he quickly challenged Emme for the top spot.

Emme managed to fend off those challenges until the lead duo got into heavy lapped traffic entering turns three and four on lap sixteen. Uttech dove to the bottom of the track to pass two lapped cars, while Emme went to the high side, and Uttech came away with the lead. Uttech then paced the remaining four laps to win the event over Emme, Bob Reichert, Sippel and Jeff Harder who rounded out the top five.
