July 11, 1999, Sun Prairie, WI - Nine-year mini-sprint veteran, Scott Sippel, captured his fourth feature win at the Angel Park Speedway Sunday night. The Wisconsin Mini-Sprint Association ran the race in conjunction with the Badger Midget Racing Organization in one of three WIMSA races held at the track.
Many racers of the American Mini-Sprint Association, like Pat Haynes, raced WIMSA racers in the mini-sprint division. Sippel, current point leader of the WIMSA series, took a win in heat one beating out Illinios racer Dean Luckey. Pat Haynes won the second heat, while Skokie Illinios racer Bob Reichert claimed the third heat race.
Appleton racer Kevin Eggert was the polesitter of the 23-car feature race, John Sauermilch of Elkhart Lake sat outside row one, Phil Brannen and Dean Luckey made up row two. Sauermilch quickly took to the front on the first lap followed by Eggert and Luckey pressuring him. Scott Sippel, thirsty for another victory after narrowly missing a win Saturday night quickly scooped up the fourth spot.
With four laps in, Eggert slowed on the backstretch, a caution was brought out for him. Also pulling in under that caution were Bill Meyers and Glenbeulah's Jeff Harder.
On the re-start, Sippel charged furiously to the front in turn two taking the lead away from Sauermilch, also passing the second place car of Luckey. Sippel, making no hesitation, opened up a half-straightaway lead over Sauermilch. Meanwhile back further in the pack, Haynes and Muskego's Scott Uttech battled it out door to door for the fifth spot.
Another caution came out, this time for debris, allowing for the rest of the pack to maybe have a chance to battle Sippel for the lead. Sippel once again on the restart hooked up very well to jump from the rest of the pack.
One lap later, Ryan Besaw of Omro brought out another caution, bunching the traffic up for a tight race. On the next restart, Scott Uttech, winner of the feature Saturday night in Plymouth, started in the second spot right next to archrival Sippel.
But again, it was Sippel jumping the field on the re-start. In an already caution marred feature, Phil Brannen ended up flipping his ride in turn two bringing out the checkers at time limit. Phil managed to climb out of his car, thankfully uninjured.
Sippel, quite content with his fourth feature win this season still stays
atop WIMSA points en' route to a great early season campaign. Finishing second was
Scott Uttech, Luckey third, Sauermilch fourth and Pat Haynes fifth. WIMSA's next stop will
be this coming Friday at the Calumet County
Raceway in Chilton.
